Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Performance Wins Contest
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets still had possession with a opportunity to drive for a potential victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," the coach commented following the contest.
